An open source program to generate zero-thickness cohesive interface elements
نویسنده
چکیده
An open source program to generate zero-thickness cohesive interface elements in existing finite element discretizations is presented. This contribution fills the gap in the literature that, to the best of the author’s knowledge, there is no such program exists. The program is useful in numerical modeling of material/structure failure using cohesive interface elements. The program is able to generate one/two dimensional, linear/quadratic cohesive elements (i) at all interelement boundaries, (ii) at material interfaces and (iii) at grain boundaries in polycrystalline materials. Algorithms and utilization of the program is discussed. Several two dimensional and three dimensional fracture mechanics problems are given including debonding process of material interfaces, multiple delamination of composite structures, crack propagation in polycrystalline structures.

Study of dynamic crack branching using intrinsic cohesive surfaces with variable initial elastic stiffness
As observed by Needleman and co-workers [1], it is still not clear to what extent the initially elastic cohesive surfaces are more appropriate than the initially rigid cohesive surfaces for a given application. In this work, an analysis where the initially elastic model is approached asymptotically to the initially rigid is proposed. The purpose of this analysis is to gain more insight into the...

متن کاملIsogeometric cohesive elements for two and three dimensional composite delamination analysis
Isogeometric cohesive elements are presented for modeling two and three dimensional delaminated composite structures. We exploit the knot insertion algorithm offered by NURBS (Non Uniform Rational B-splines) to generate cohesive elements along delamination planes in an automatic fashion. A complete computational framework is presented including pre-processing, processing and post-processing. Th...
متن کاملModeling impact induced delamination of woven ®ber reinforced composites with contact/cohesive laws
The dynamic delamination in woven glass ®ber reinforced plastic (GRP) composite is studied with a 3D ®nite deformation anisotropic viscoplastic model in conjunction with contact/cohesive laws. The large deformation of the material during impact loading is described through an anisotropic plasticity model in total Lagrangian co-ordinates whose coecients are determined experimentally. The intera...
متن کامل[hal-00855920, v1] Interface finite elements for parametric study of structures with thin constrained layer damping
The design and the optimization of structures with constrained layer damping (CLD) treatment requires an efficient numerical tool. The frame of this work is the modelling of thin constrained viscoelastic layers embedded in a massive structure meshed in 3D. A zero-thickness interface finite element is developed in order to model this viscoelastic layer, which enables to modify both its placement...
